Gender Neutrality in Healthcare
Multiple articles addressed gender neutrality in healthcare. One article highlighted the experiences of a nonbinary individual at the gynecologist’s office and provided a guide to healthcare professionals for when they misgender someone who uses gender-neutral pronouns, such as “they/them”. The steps include reading the room, apologize for misgendering, thank them for the correction, and continue to embrace gender-neutral language. Another article featured an advocacy group in Botswana called “African Women for Sexual Health and Gender Justice” and their work to improve healthcare accessibility for transgender and intersex individuals. The Managing Director of the organization, Hazel Mokgathi, has pushed for policies such as gender-neutral medical cards for patients.
