Gender-Neutral Restrooms

From theaters to schools, public spaces are installing gender-neutral restrooms. The Academy of Music in Northampton, Massachusetts is changing their bathrooms to gender neutral ones. The previously entitled “Men’s Room” will now show a display that simply states “Stalls and Urinals”. Additionally, the “Women’s Room” display will be changed to read “Stalls Only”. The Watermark Theatre in Canada is also adding gender-neutral restrooms to the space.

School Boards and Boards of Cooperative Educational Services in New York are now required to convert all single-occupancy restrooms into gender-neutral restrooms with clear sign designations. Meanwhile, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is providing students with free menstrual products in women’s, men’s, and gender-neutral restrooms.
