Gender-Neutral Fashion
Gender-neutral fashion was another topic highly discussed this week from gender-neutral watches to underwear.
An analytical research report about the gender-neutral clothing industry in 2020 was released this week with predictions about product demand, top companies, market size and growth. Actor and singer Janelle Monae recently stated in an interview that, “I really consider myself a gender-bender when it comes to fashion. I support gender-neutral clothing and love being able to live outside of that binary, both in fashion and in how I live my life in general.”
One article highlighted Michele Obama’s new “Vote 4EVER Merch”, which is connected to her “When We All Vote” organization, for their gender-neutral clothing and size inclusivity.
Another article discussed gender-neutral outfits and clothing items to wear during the pandemic to stay comfortable while working at home, such as oversized tees and athleisure. A Searchmetrics study of 10,000 clothing search items showed that 20% of the articles that popped up were gendered when the original search was gender-neutral. The study suggested that, “online fashion retailers should review the top keywords they are targeting and check if Google has a gender bias for those terms.”
