Gender-Neutral Brands and Products
Multiple articles this week featured gender-neutral brands, products, and their creators. One article highlighted a gender-neutral inclusive fashion brand that raised money for LGBTQ+ organizations and charities. The founder stated, “There are still far too many limitations within our common culture that restrict LGBT members, especially within LGBT youth. The most evident issue found within gender defining and conforming is the increase in dysphoria, which is a huge concern within youth today and a factor towards depression rates. The simplest thing such as being able to find the right clothing with the right fit can be an overwhelming joy for those struggling to find a place within society. One article discussed the growth of gender-neutral beauty brands and interviewed multiple owners of gender-neutral brands. The Co-Founder of Super Smelly stated, “Gender neutrality is a global movement gaining momentum with the current generation. It is a lifestyle, generational shift, and the new normal. The present generation understands that when it comes to skin, hair, and fragrances there are no gender-related boundaries. Apart from the shaving range for boys, there is no reason for different products for different genders. This mindset has urged many new gender-neutral brands to come up to rethink and rework their strategies for existing brands.” Meanwhile the Co-Founder of WOW Skin Science commented, “Both men and women have similar skin or hair issues, so they do not really need separate products, hence gender-neutral products have gained momentum in the market. Besides that, the other social change with regards to gender identity among people today is also pushing brands to create products that everybody can use without any specific gender definition. With gender fluidity becoming the norm, we are seeing a change in brand and packaging strategies among brands who want a higher connection with the modern consumer.”

Meanwhile, many articles highlighted new gender-neutral items from gender-neutral jewelry lines, to famous Youtuber David Dobrik’s new gender-neutral fragrance. Articles about potential holiday gifts mentioned a gender-neutral fragrance as a white elephant gift and gender-neutral pajama set for kids.
