Gender-Neutral Awards
Many articles continued to discuss gender-neutral award categories. Venice Film Festival Director, Alberto Barbera, when asked about considering gender-neutral awards stated, “No. I understand Berlin’s decision. It is about diminishing gender discrimination. But I’m not sure this is the correct and proper way to solve the problem.”
Many articles continued to highlight the actors that have spoken out in support of the gender-neutral acting categories, such as Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, and Ayushmann Khurrana. Another article argued that the Tony Awards should have gender-neutral acting categories and highlighted several theater awards shows that have recently done so, such as the Theatre Bay Area Awards and the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle.
